HCMC authorities introduced the newest members of their infrastructure repair team today, two “discovery” robots, on loan from a local water company. The robots, whose day job is investigating leaks and inspecting faulty water mains, will help discover the source of street sinkholes, a citywide problem responsible for traffic accidents and property damage this year.
Concrete solutions for plugging the sinkhole epidemic, which has become increasingly destructive and widespread in recent weeks as a result of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, remain elusive.
Lê Thanh Hải, party secretary of Ho Chi Minh City, claimed that despite the identification of several potential incubators, further research is imperative in understanding the sinkholes, adding, “All related agencies must coordinate to identify and solve this problem for the sake of property and the safety of the people.” (VNexpress.net)
